Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has urged his club to sign Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

The Dutch wing-back hit the headlines recently with an outstanding performance in Inter Milan’s 7-6 aggregate victory over FC Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

He scored two goals in Spain in the first leg and continued his fine form by creating two goals in the second match as he was the definition of a thorn in the side of the Catalans all night long.

Dumfries has been linked to United numerous times before in the past when Erik ten Hag was manager of the club.

There have been recent reports however, that United would still be keen to add the 29 year old. He would fit perfectly into the club’s 3-4-3 formation as a right wing-back.

What’s more, Inter are also said to be open to a potential departure, as long as they can recoup a significant fee from a potential sale.

One fan of the move would be Gary Neville. Speaking on the Sky Sports Stick to Football Podcast, he lauded the Dutchman.

Commenting on the recent round of Champions League fixtures he asserted, “do you know what I kept thinking, I was thinking with United playing with their back five and the wing-backs, I was thinking about that right wing-back Dumfries, for United.”

“I’d like to see him in the Premier League. Dumfries, how good was he? Unbelievable. He’s so good, he’s so good.”

United certainly do need extra attacking threat from the wing-back spots.

Diogo Dalot has reportedly impressed Ruben Amorim since his arrival at the club but the Portugal international undoubtedly lacks attacking threat, especially in comparison to Dumfries.

The Inter defender has racked up ten goals and six assists in all competitions this season and would certainly add dynamism to United’s attacks should the club follow Neville’s advice.
