Former England international Gary Lineker this afternoon aptly summed up the feelings of fans across the globe, amid claims of Manchester United preparing a bid for one of Real Madrid’s star performers.

The player in question? Vinícius Jr.

Wide-man Vinícius, of course, is fresh off his standout display of the season to date, which saw the Brazilian put a hat-trick past arch rivals Barcelona to guide Real Madrid to the Spanish Super Cup title.

Ensuing reports on Wednesday, pointing towards a potential Santiago Bernabéu exit for Vinícius, therefore came as a major surprise.

As per Sport, citing claims from Defensa Central, Premier League giants Manchester United are giving consideration to a big-money bid for the 23-year-old.

The report goes as far as to suggest that the Red Devils would be willing to part with as much as €150 million to push a deal over the line.

This comes amid the insinuation that Real Madrid could open to Vinícius’ sale, in the case of Kylian Mbappé sealing his long-anticipated move to Spain’s capital.

The rumour, for obvious reasons, has since been laughed off by fans and pundits the world over, both owing to Vinícius’ importance in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, and the attacker’s presumed unwillingness to join a long-struggling Man United outfit.

And, as alluded to above, one high-profile individual who certainly sees the funny side of the rumour, comes in the form of Gary Lineker.

Taking to his official X account this afternoon, ex-Barcelona striker Lineker reposted an article highlighting United’s interest in Vinícius, accompanied by the simplest of captions – Two laughing emojis:
