Friday 1st November 2024 –Former England manager Gareth Southgate is the new favourite to succeed Philippe Clement as Rangers boss should the Belgian get the sack, according to betideas.com.
Clement is facing mounting pressure at Ibrox following a poor start to the season and ex-Three Lions boss Southgate has now been installed as the market leader at 3/1 to replace him.
Following Southgate in the betting is former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who is being tipped for a return to Ibrox at 4/1, while ex-Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard follows behind at 8/1.
Also in the running are Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes (9/1), former Rangers player Kevin Muscat (10/1), as well as Lee Carsley and Rafa Benitez, who are both priced at 12/1.
Lee Astley, spokesperson for betideas.com, said:
“Philippe Clement’s days as Rangers manager look numbered following a woeful start to the 2024/25 campaign and his successor could well be a former England manager in Gareth Southgate.
“Southgate, who is currently unemployed after leaving the Three Lions in the summer, is the new 3/1 favourite to land the role at Ibrox next, with Steven Gerrard also in the running for a return to the Glasgow club at 4/1.
“They appear to be the two frontrunners, but Frank Lampard (8/1), Derek McInnes (9/1), Kevin Muscat (10/1) and Lee Carsley and Rafa Benitez (both 12/1) are all longer shots in the market for what would be a highly coveted job.”
