Gareth Bale made all the headlines as he scored just 11 minutes after coming on at half-time as Real Madrid came from behind to defeat Arsenal on penalties following a 2-2 draw in regular time.
Arsenal would go on top just 10 minutes into the match through an Alexandre Lacazette penalty after Nacho was sent off for a handball on the goal line.
With the extra man, Arsenal would double their advantage in the 24th minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he spectacularly got behind the defence and rounded Keylor Navas.
However, Sokratis would be sent off for a second yellow in quick succession to balance out the sides just before half-time.
Zinedine Zidane stunningly put in Gareth Bale for the second half and he would poach on a rebound to cut the deficit in half in the 56th minute.
Three minutes later, Marco Asensio would level the match with a fantastic near-post finish.
After 90 minutes, the match went to penalties with Real Madrid prevailing 3-2, even though Bale missed his penalty.
Real Madrid will next face rivals Atletico Madrid on Friday, while Arsenal will return home to face Lyon on Sunday in the Emirates Cup.
