Gareth Bale has hailed the character he and his Wales teammates showed in their 1-1 draw with USA.

The Dragons' first World Cup match in 64 years ended in a draw with Bale burying a late penalty after Kieffer Moore made a significant impact from the bench.

Rob Page's side were poor in the first half and fell behind to a Tim Weah strike, but Bale was keen to point out that Wales showed great resolve.

"[It was] not a good first half, to be honest," he told ITV. "They played really well and we played poor. But we talked with the gaffer at half-time, changed a few things around. The boys came out fighting and battling like we always do, we looked like we were going to win the game from the start of the second half.

"It's a great point, we showed great character again like we did in 2021 in the Euros. We go again."

When asked what was said at half-time, Bale

"We just had to regroup, do what good teams do and come back stronger and show our character like we always do.

"It was always me [that was going to take the penalty]. No doubt in my head, I feel like I had to step up and I'm happy to do so.

"It's incredible [to have scored at a World Cup] but I would've rather the three points, to be honest."
