Gareth Bale golf: Former Real Madrid man stuns world number three after practice round

Gareth Bale is set to make his PGA Tour debut next month as he takes part in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, so it’s no surprise to see the Welsh football star honing his skills ahead of his maiden outing.
He has been for a practice round with world number three, Jon Rahm, who was left stunned with what he saw from the recently retired footballer, Bale may be entering as an amateur, but his time on the course has been well documented.
During his days with Real Madrid, he made his position at the club nothing short of untenable when he danced around with his Welsh teammates, holding a flag reading ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order’, which of course went down like a lead balloon.
Rahm is one of the very best golfers on the planet at the moment, but even he was taken back when practising with Bale recently. Now that says a lot about just how talented Bale is if he can shock someone like Rahm with his golfing calibre.
The official PGA Tour TikTok account was on hand with footage of the pair playing together, getting their thoughts on the nine holes they just played. Rahm was just full of superlatives for Bale, so watch this space.
Their practice session took place at the Torrey Pines course, with Rahm flabbergasted. They were joined by ESPN’s golf analyst Michael Collins as well as social media influencer Tisha Alyn, but the Welshman shone brightest.
Talking to the camera, Rahm claimed: “I told Gareth, ‘you can’t be so good at professional football and gold at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair’. You can be dedicated to one thing and have this much talent for golf, it’s not fair in the slightest.
“When he can actually practise more, he’s going to get a lot better. He got two strokes in the Pro-Am, which I think is already wrong. He should be giving strokes to the rest of the amateurs because he is a very, very good player.”
Bale will be in action from the February 2, and it sounds like his free time in Madrid wasn’t wasted as he sharpened his skills with a club in hand.
