THE MATCH
Montpellier have now scored in 16 of their last 17 home games against Strasbourg in the top flight and they opened the scoring (12') through Mollet. Téji Savanier found Valère Germain with a precise long pas and the former Marseille forward nodded the ball Mollet's way. The playmaker's left-footed half-volley flew past Matz Sels.
Arnaud Souquet made a great saving challenge (22') after Gameiro looked to have picked out Ludovic Ajorque but that only delayed the equaliser by six minutes (28') as Ajorque laid the ball off for Gameiro, who dummied to shoot, fooling Jordan Ferri and Mamadou Sakho. Gameiro then unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that found the back of the net.
Germain (60') had a good opportunity when Stephy Mavididi crossed from the left but instead of connecting with the header, the ball came off the forward's shoulder. Savanier delighted with his skill and trickery (63') but Sels was able to gather the shot at the second attempt.
Gameiro (64') could have scored the winner but didn't make a clean connection when ideally served by Ibrahima Sissoko. Jonas Omlin in goal was a relieved man. It finished all square between two mid-table clubs.
THE PLAYER: Kevin Gameiro
Gameiro had netted against his former club Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the season but this was the former Valencia player's most complete game in his new colours as he added a second Ligue 1 Uber Eats goal and generally made life difficult for a defence featuring Sakho, with whom he won the 2013 Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
THE STAT: 4
Montpellier haven't won any of their last four matches, drawing three and losing one.
