Two goals from Kasper Dolberg, either side of a Hicham Boudaoui strike and an Amine Gouiri penalty, gave Nice a stunning victory as Galtier made an early return to face the club he led to the title last season before moving to the Côte d’Azur.
“It is a beautiful victory,” he said after a display that was in stark contrast to the performance in drawing 0-0 with Stade de Reims on the opening weekend of the campaign.
“I wanted my team to express themselves in the same style as the team I managed last season, with character, enthusiasm and solidarity. Nice played like the LOSC of last season. We should enjoy this victory but we need to keep our feet on the ground.”
Of his old club, Galtier added: “It is always difficult to move on after enjoying success. Often you find that you are not able to raise your game to the same extent at the start of a new season and you forget some of the basics.”
Lille: 'See a reaction'
After drawing 3-3 with FC Metz last weekend, Lille are still without a win this season and have already conceded seven times in two outings. Contrast that with the 23 conceded in the whole of last season and new LOSC coach Jocelyn Gourvennec clearly has his work cut out.
“Seven goals for a team that let in 23 all last season is far too much,” he said. “We weren’t up to it but I don’t want to throw everything in the bin. We had chances to get back into the game and the players didn’t give up. We need to see a reaction after this.”
