For the second straight season, Paris Saint-Germain will not be lifting the Coupe de France after the capital club fell 2-1 to rival Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday night at the Stade Vélodrome.
After crashing out in the Coupe de France Round of 16, the French giants will now need to focus on FC Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 contest.
In his postgame interview, manager Christophe Galtier was asked whether he plans to change the squad ahead of his most significant task.
“We will see the state of form of each other,” Galtier told beIN Sports (h/t Canal Supporters). “We will see the sequence of matches. In three days, we have an important match in Monaco. We’ll see if there are any small sores.
“Obviously, in the preparation for this match, there was the desire and the ambition to qualify. With the absence of some, it could look like this. We also learn lessons from this match. […]We must be much more dangerous.”
Galtier will head into the clash without Kylian Mbappe in his squad and after the result against Marseille, the French tactician will need to deliver for some fans to forget the debacle that was the Coupe de France.
A failed result could begin the talks of Galtier being on the hot seat as a Ligue 1 title might not be enough for some to consider the 56-year-old safe for next season.
