Normally the newspapers the day after a game are dominated by the result itself, but that couldn’t be more different this morning.

In the hour that led up to the 1-1 draw with Roma, numerous reports from reputable sources emerged suggesting that Paulo Fonseca was heading for the sack regardless of the result.

Sure enough, it has been confirmed this morning that the game against his former club was his last, with the club announcing his sacking.

These rumours also stated that that Sergio Conceicao would soon replace Fonseca, and the Italian papers this morning make it clear that is the case.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Fonseca, it’s over. Conceiçao arrives. Tension with the team and the club. The coach: ‘I did what I could.’ The former Porto coach waited in Milan. Already on the bench for the Supercup.

Corriere dello Sport: “Milan to Conceiçao. Roma get a draw at San Siro (1-1). Paulo sent off, destiny is marked. Agreement for six months, Fonseca goes. The former Porto coach prepares to sign a contract until June with an option for a further campaign. Dybala replies to Reijnders’ goal. The Rossoneri at risk in the second half, the fans boo. Change on the bench decided.”

Tuttosport: “Fonseca goes, here’s Conceiçao! The draw against Roma doesn’t solve the crisis. Milan have decided. Another Portuguese for the bench: the former Inter winger Conceiçao, father of the Juventino Francisco. A six-month contract is ready, with an option in favour of the club. Paulo ends with a red card. Fans at San Siro ‘sack’ Cardinale too.”
