Chelsea have spent huge sums on players since being taken over and William Gallas has labelled one signing he believes has been a “disaster.”
The Blues were taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022 and have completely revamped the squad in under three years.
The club have broken the British transfer record twice on the signings of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, whilst they have also invested heavily in Wesley Fofana and Mykhailo Mudyrk.
With the volume of players Chelsea have signed there’s going to moves which don’t work out, and not every signing is going to be a Cole Palmer.
There’s no doubt Palmer has been the best signing made, but Gallas has named the signing he thinks has been a “disaster.”

“Chelsea didn’t sign a defender with the same qualities [as Silva] despite spending £70 million on Wesley Fofana, which has just been a disaster,” Gallas told Slingo as quoted by DAZN.
“When Chelsea signed Fofana three years ago, I was very worried because he had already suffered a long-term injury at Leicester.
“Even though his injuries have been different, sometimes a bad injury can have a lot of damage on the body and since he joined Chelsea even when he was fit he hasn’t been able to find his best performances.
“Chelsea have potentially made a mistake. He has the potential to go very far but it’s so hard to come back from serious injuries and reach the same level.
“You have to be so sure when you spend that sort of money and they can’t have been.”

The France international is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Maresca confirmed he’s closing in on a return, and he was seen out on the grass at Cobham earlier this month.
Fofana signed in the summer of 2022 from Leicester for a reported fee of £70m plus add ons and missed the entire of last season with an ACL injury, but he’s yet to be fit for a full season and has only made 32 appearances for the Blues.
