Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera supported his counter-part following Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha’s own goal last night.

Speaking in an interview with Turkish media outlet Sozcu.com.tr last night after the game, the 35-year-old Uruguayan shot stopper commented on the mistake made by Strakosha and highlighted how these things can happen.

If you look, it’s the same mistake I made a few games ago. Things like that can always happen, goalkeepers are alone on the pitch.  There will be mistakes like the one made today by the opposing goalkeeper. This is the peculiarity of the goalkeeper’s job, our mistakes are not forgiven and this is part of our job.  We must continue without demoralising ourselves, we must not give up.

The 26-year-old Strakosha, who has been with Lazio since 2013, made his first appearance of the season under coach Maurizio Sarri in last night’s Europa League opener against Galatasaray.

His calamitous mistake in the second half will haunt him for a long time now, as it’s all but certain that Spanish veteran Pepe Reina will remain the number one for the rest of the season.

New Cagliari Coach Mazzarri Already Preparing His Plan for Match vs Lazio

Strakosha lost his starting spot last season under previous coach Simone Inzaghi and failed to win his spot back across the season.

Clearly Sarri shared the same hesitations of Inzaghi and now Strakosha is even more estranged from the squad. His current contract expires next year in 2022 and for now a renewal seems unlikely.
