Galatasaray and Marseille After Milan Captain Calabria

Davide Calabria remains hopeful Milan will eventually offer him a contract extension, even though there haven’t been any signals in that direction by the management for now. His deal expires at the end of the season. He has lowered his demands and would be content with re-upping at his current rate, €2M per year, Calciomercato informs.

The Rossoneri haven’t instructed his agent to find a new home for his client in January, but it’s not completely out of the question either. Paulo Fonseca wouldn’t mind keeping him until the end of the season to relieve Emerson Royal from time to time. He has missed most matches so far due to multiple physical problems.

Calabria would need to come to grips with the fact that Milan would let him go in the summer for his January exit to become viable. Moreover, his suitors must offer at least €3/4M. Galatasaray pursued him insistently last summer and plans to do it again.

Olympique Marseille could also be keen and are doing their evaluation ahead of a possible chase. The Rossoneri aren’t sweating the situation. They won’t need to find a replacement if he leaves. They’d promote Alex Jimenez, whom they signed from Real Madrid permanently last summer after a loan. He has been doing well with their Futuro squad.

Our Take on Milan and Calabria

He’s not a world-beater by any stretch, but something might have happened behind the scenes for the officials to drag their feet on an extension of a player in his prime who’s not too pricey, is very attached to the team, and wouldn’t pout if he’s not a regular.
