Gabriel Martinelli says Emi Martinez has been like his big brother since he joined the club, helping him out with everything he needs to adapt.

Martinelli has taken no time at all to settle in with Arsenal on the pitch, outscoring everyone at the club not named Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so far this season.

That’s only been possible because of the help he’s received from his teammates away from the field of play though, and fellow South American Emi Martinez has helped particularly with the 18-year-old’s adaptation period.

“[Emi Martinez is] like my big brother here,” Martinelli said. “He helps me with everything. When I need to borrow something or a car, he helps me with everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better one (big brother).”

This isn’t the first time the brotherly relationship between the two players has come up. After praising Martinelli’s impact so far, Rob Holding admitted Martinez often translates for the winger, helping him to pick up more English.

Martinelli also previously confirmed that Martinez picks him up from home to drive to training, and said that having the goalkeeper and fellow Brazilian David Luiz helped him settle.

It’s clear Martinez is good for more than just the three clean sheets he’s kept in four games for the club this season.

Having spent many of his developing years with Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, it’s perhaps no surprise he’s learned the importance of supporting young players. It’s great to see him putting that ideal into action.
