Having been left out of the Brazil squad, Gabriel Jesus is determined to win back his place.
The Manchester City striker failed to score at a disappointing World Cup and has not been named in the Brazil squad to face the USA and El Salvador next month, with manager Tite looking to experiment.
Speaking after his goal in Manchester City’s 6-1 defeat of Huddersfield on Sunday, Jesus revealed he received a phone call to inform him he would not be in the Brazil squad before it was announced.
“They called me me a few minutes before the announcement and let me know,” the 21-year-old told ESPN Brazil.
“I was happy they called but obviously I wasn’t happy not to be selected.
“I always want to be playing for my country. I wasn’t happy but that doesn’t mean I’m angry at someone. Quite the contrary.
“What they told me is between us, I do not have to talk, I was happy about the call, now it’s about working hard, as I always have, to find a way back into the national team.
“I also accept that other players have to have opportunities. I am relaxed about regaining my place.”
