Gabriel Jesus thanks Arsenal fans for support during goal drought, scores brace in 4-1 win over Leeds, and shares his journey to recovery.

Gabriel Jesus has expressed his gratitude to the club’s fans for their unwavering support during his six-month wait to score. The Brazilian forward was delighted to repay their faith by netting a brace in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Leeds United.

Jesus had been on an 11-game goalless streak before the World Cup, which was followed by a knee injury that sidelined him for four months. He finally broke his drought by converting a penalty against Leeds, and he couldn’t be happier.

“It was so good playing again, starting again and feeling the atmosphere of the crowd,” Jesus said after the match.

“The supporters come all together, and the way they support me is massive. I just want to say thank you to them for supporting me until the end. It’s not easy when you’re seeing your striker not scoring goals, but they always support me.”

Despite the pressure to get back on track, Jesus revealed that he had been practicing penalties in the lead-up to the game and felt confident about taking the spot-kick.

“I want to score and I practice [penalties],” he said. “Yesterday I was practicing with the guys, so I was confident, I wanted [to take it]. That’s the best way to take penalties.”

For Jesus, the most important thing is helping his team secure three points, no matter how they achieve it. Having missed a significant part of the season, he now wants to play and contribute to the team’s success.

The 25-year-old believes that his comeback is complete and that the hard work he put in during his four-month rehabilitation period was worth it. As he continues to regain match sharpness, Jesus expects to make an even bigger impact on the field.

Reflecting on his injury and recovery, Jesus said, “I love challenges. Obviously, with an injury and when there’s surgery involved, it’s not easy, but if God gives me this challenge, it’s because I can survive and come back stronger.

“I remember day one of rehab, working hard and thinking about the way to come back. If I don’t work hard, I’ll come back soft.”

While Jesus is eager to play more minutes, he respects manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to manage his playing time carefully after a lengthy layoff.

Despite being disappointed to be substituted after 60 minutes, Jesus is ready to make the most of every opportunity on the pitch.
