Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday in a feisty encounter, with the ill-tempered rivalry between the two teams on full display from the very first whistle to the last one.

Erling Braut Haaland opened the scoring for the hosts and was also petulant all game, bumping into the Arsenal players and throwing the ball at the head of Gabriel Magalhaes when Man City equalised at the death.

The Norwegian striker also left Gabriel Jesus fuming at full-time after telling Gunners manager Mikel Arteta to stay humble.

The Brazilian forward was unimpressed with Haaland, squaring up to him and exchanging words shortly afterwards.

The Man City star was unable to influence the proceedings after opening the scoring, with William Saliba and his Brazilian counterpart limiting his chances after the goal.

Arsenal proved their mettle yesterday and could have held on to all three points had they finished the game with 11 players.

The Gunners had a mountain to climb after Leandro Trossard got sent off towards the end of the first-half, and they ended up defending with their lives in the second-half.

Arteta had to take off Bukayo Saka for Ben White ahead of the restart, while Kai Havertz had to stay at the back for the remainder of the game.

The German and Jurrien Timber did not complete any of their passes against Man City, becoming the first outfield players on record (from 2003-04) to play 89+ minutes of a Premier League match and not successfully pass to a teammate.

Arsenal will be looking forward to their game against the Premier League leaders at Emirates Stadium in February 2025, and another fierce clash is expected.
