Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus could be sidelined for up to three months following a knee injury that has ruled him out of the remainder of the World Cup, according to The Telegraph.

The 25-year-old picked up the injury in Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their final group stage match and had a scan on Saturday morning to determine the extent of the problem.

While it was already confirmed that the former Manchester City man will not be able to represent the Selecao at the tournament in Qatar any further, there are now concerns that he will be unavailable for an extended period.

Jesus’ injury is a huge blow to Arsenal and their hopes of challenging Manchester City to the Premier League title.

The Brazilian has been a vital cog in Mikel Arteta’s team since his big-money move from the reigning champions Man City, and if there is one player the Gunners cannot afford to lose at this stage of the season, it is Jesus.

Despite his blazing start to the season, the striker has not been in his free-scoring form for the Gunners lately, but five goals and five assists in 14 appearances still underline his importance to the team.

His creativity, exceptional hold-up play, and vision in and around the box have proven to be game-changing attributes for his new side.

Jesus has provided a new level of dynamism, intensity and unpredictability to Arteta’s attack, and his selfless contributions have also allowed his teammates to thrive.

Arsenal are in contact with the Brazilian medical team, and club sources have insisted that it remains too early to make any definitive assessments on the extent of the striker’s injury.
