Flamengo claimed their third Campeonato Carioca title in a row with victory over Fluminense at the Maracanã on Saturday.

Scorers: Barbosa (P) 45′, 45+2′, Gomes 87′; Fred (P) 52′

The sides came into the second leg of the final level following their 1-1 draw in the first leg last Saturday.

Flamengo took the lead on the stroke of half time when Gabriel Barbosa converted from the spot after Fluminense goalkeeper Marcos Felipe brought down Giorgian De Arrascaeta in the penalty area.

Gabigol then managed to add a second before the break.

Filipe Luís fed the striker, whose effort from an acute angle had plenty of power but nevertheless should have been saved by Felipe.

The Tricolor struck back early in the second half, however, when Fred was successful from 12 yards.

Fluminense needed another goal to force a penalty shoot out, but substitute João Gomes struck three minutes from time to ensure Flamengo won on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

It marked the 37th time the Mengão have been crowned Carioca champions.
