Gabriel Barbosa was in terrific form for Flamengo at Santos on a night that was also one to remember for new arrival Andreas Pereira.
Scorers: Barbosa PEN 52′, 71′, 80′, Pereira 84′
It was a feisty encounter at the Estádio Urbano Caldeira, with five yellow cards dished out in the opening 35 minutes.
The deadlock was eventually broken six minutes after the interval. Michael was fouled in the area and Barbosa tucked away the penalty with minimum of fuss.
Michael was also heavily involved in Gabigol’s second of the night. It was his final pass that allowed the star striker to tap into an empty net to finish off a fantastic counter-attack.
And Gabigol completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time when he latched onto the rebound after goalkeeper João Paulo’s spilled Thiago Maia’s initial effort.
Pereira, who recently joined on loan from Manchester United, put the cherry on top for the Rubro-Negro with a goal on his debut.
A sloppy pass by Santos put the new boy clear through on goal just moments after he had replaced Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
The win lifts Flamengo into the top four of the Brasileirão, seven points behind leaders Atlético Mineiro with a game in hand.
