Gabriel Barbosa endured a mixed night as he opened the scoring only to be later booed off by a section of his own fans as Flamengo defeated América Mineiro.
Scorers: Barbosa 41′, de Arrascaeta 71′, Marinho 90+1′
The hosts dominated the early proceedings at the Marcanã, but América-MG stood firm to make life increasingly difficult as the first half progressed.
Flamengo eventually made the breakthrough shortly before the break when Pedro used his physicality to latch onto a Santos goal kick before laying the ball on a plate for Barbosa to finish from close range.
The Rubro-Negro started the second half brightly, and Barbosa had a golden chance to double their lead when a penalty was awarded after Giorgian de Arrascaeta made the most of contact from Juninho.
However the Brazil international failed to notch his second of the game as he dragged his spot kick wide.
Manager Dorival Júnior made the surprising decision to replace Barbosa with Éverton Ribeiro, but it proved an inspired substitution as the latter set up de Arrascaeta just moments after entering the fray.
Another substitute Marinho put the icing on the cake with a wicked left-footed drive as the Mengão moved up to seventh in the Brasileirão table.
