On Monday night, Flamengo kept themselves very much alive in the race for the Brasileirão title, scoring a 3-0 victory over Goiás.

The powerful attacking trio of Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Gabigol, and Pedro each scored as the rubro-negro moved within five points of São Paulo, still with a game in hand on the leaders.

After the match, Gabigol took a shot at the media, who have claimed that there is a lot of problems happening within the Flamengo dressing room amid sensitive information, including starting XIs, being leaked from an anonymous source.

“I gave an interview, I said what I really think. Many things were created that did not exist. We needed to improve and we played a good game. We had a convincing victory,” Gabigol told SporTV, referring to the interview he gave during the last week, in which he denied issues within the Flamengo squad.

Upon leaving the pitch, Gabigol also came across one of the club’s interns, who reminded him of a promise he made before the ball rolled.

At the time of the meeting, the boy said: “Thanks, Gabi. He said he was going to score a goal and he scored.” Laughing, the attacker replied: “I warned you, huh.”

With his goal, Gabigol moved into 12th-highest scorer in the Brasileirão’s running points era (no knockout stage), which began in 2003.

On Thursday, Flamengo, who have nine matches left to play, will face off against fifth-placed Palmeiras, who trail Flamengo by just a single point in the race for an automatic place in the Copa Libertadores group stage.
