It’s been known for a few days but over the European night, defender Matteo Gabbia left the training camp of Milan in the US and got on a plane to Spain.

The 23-year-old will spend the next season on loan at Villarreal, who will not have an option to buy Matteo.

“I am very happy with this new experience in Spain,” Gabbia told Sky Italia.

“I am sorry to leave a fantastic group, I wish the best to all the staff and all my teammates. Hopefully, however, Milan will get some satisfaction. I want to send greetings to all the fans. I am very excited about my new experience, I couldn’t help but accept it. It immediately fired me up a lot.”

With Gabbia leaving, it’s possible that Milan will be in the market for a new center back, with the name of 20-year-old Valencia man Facundo González mentioned in the press.
