Matteo Gabbia once again proved why he may be the right man to captain AC Milan one day after the win against Udinese, speaking with true leadership mentality.

Despite the fact that Milan won 4-0 on Friday night, the outlook on the year does not automatically change, instead, it probably deepens, with the Rossoneri needing to show more consistency. However, this is something that the team are aware of.

Speaking to Sky, via Milan News, Matteo Gabbia admitted as much and stated that there is still work to do.

Have regrets increased?

“The value of the squad does not reflect the position we are in, but the blame is ours and not others’. We must take our responsibilities, trying to do the best we can in this final part of the season. I am happy for all my teammates.”

Whilst the Diavolo won by scoring four, there was another big event in the game – early in the second half, Mike Maignan went in for a challenge with his head, bravely, and unfortunately was knocked unconscious, and Gabbia offered an update on his condition.

“He’s [Maignan] fine. As soon as the match was over, we asked the doctors how he was and they reassured us: he’s in hospital for tests, but he’s fine and we’re happy. He’s a great captain and he put his face on the line for us.”

Finally, the defender spoke about the new formation trialled by Conceicao today, which Rafael Leao has already audibly complimented post-game.

“I really enjoyed playing like this. The coach was good: in a few days he explained to us well what he wants, I really liked it and it worked tonight. It gave us solidity in defense and to the whole team. It was a great initiative.”

Then, he spoke to DAZN, and commented on the system, the past and the future, and his comments were once again relayed by Milan News.

Finally a clean sheet that had been missing for two months…

“I agree, it was too much… We weren’t happy, so we worked well with the coach. There was great teamwork and this is the consequence.

“We defended all together and all united: it’s a good result for the team, not just for us defenders”.

You had movements almost like a five-man line…

“We tried these things in three days, the coach was really good, and we were also good at understanding his dictates. We are satisfied with the match and the approach. We started well. Now we have to continue like this, be focused and improve those details even more.”

Now Atalanta and Inter… The group seemed calm and happy at the end of the match…

“These are two very important matches. The group worked hard during the week, they were happy that we managed to get positive results on the pitch. Now we are focusing on preparing for these two matches as best we can: first the one with Atalanta and then the return derby.

“It will be a week full of important events.”
