The Football Writers’ Association have announced that Mohamed Salah has won their Footballer of the Year honour for 2022.
Won by Manchester City defender Rúben Dias last season, the prize dates back to 1947 and is one of the oldest individual awards in the game.
The FWA have confirmed there were votes for 31 players from 12 different clubs but 48% of all votes went to Salah, with Kevin De Bruyne and Declan Rice finishing second and third.
Salah, who also won the award in 2018, is currently the Premier League’s top scorer for the season, scoring 22 and assisting a further 13 goals in 31 league appearances for Liverpool this season.
The winner of the Women’s Footballer of the Year has also been announced, with the prize going to Chelsea striker Sam Kerr.
The Australian picked up 40% of the votes, with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema finishing second and Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp coming in third.
