The Ghana international has recorded four goals in 18 competitive appearances so far this season – and will be hoping to improve that tally in the coming months as he potentially looks to put himself in the shop window.

His contract at Ashton Gate is due to expire in 2023, although the Robins have the opportunity to extend his deal by a further 12 months, though that may not deter other sides in their potential quest to recruit him.

Rangers are one side reported to be keeping a close eye on him along with Celtic, although it remains to be seen whether they will make a move for him when the winter window comes along.

The Gers are currently in the process of trying to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and that could potentially be the reason why they haven’t made contact with the Robins yet, not just because they are busy enough already but also because of the fact their new manager may not want the Ghanaian at Ibrox.

At this stage though, Queens Park Rangers boss Mick Beale is reportedly in pole position to take the top job, with the 42-year-old’s time in the EFL potentially persuading him to make a January move for the City man after seeing him shine for Nigel Pearson’s side.

The Verdict:

The forward will be focused on Ghana at this stage because they will still feel as though they have a chance to get through to the knockout stages after a promising attacking display against Portugal.

And that means the Robins may have less than a month to try and get a new deal for the 22-year-old over the line, something that seems unlikely at this stage.

Considering there has been so much interest in him in the past and is still being kept a close eye on, it would be difficult to see him signing a new contract that would make it more difficult for him to leave Ashton Gate.

There’s a chance he could put pen to paper on a new deal if there’s a release clause in his deal, but the Robins will want to secure as much money for him as possible and they won’t have a huge amount of power at the negotiating table if his release clause is low.

But Pearson’s side can’t push his price too high because that could persuade interested sides to sit tight and wait until 2024 when he may be available for nothing.

Bristol City certainly find themselves in a tricky situation, so it will be interesting to see how they approach this situation going into the winter window.
