Al Hilal have never been a serious option for West Bromwich Albion playmaker Matheus Pereira and will not be unless the Baggies become desperate to offload him this summer, according to Ryan Taylor from the Daily Express.

The Saudi Arabian side are said to have tabled an €8 million offer for the 25-year-old this summer, well below the Baggies’ valuation.

Taylor has indicated, however, that Al Hilal have never been a serious option as the money offered was too low and Pereira is keen to stay in a top league, ideally the Premier League.

It is understood that will remain the case unless the West Midlands club become desperate to move him on.

Following Albion’s relegation, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Leeds United, and West Ham United have been linked with offering him a move back to the top flight this summer.

Pereira’s future has always looked uncertain since the relegation last season but yesterday there were fresh developments.

In a statement published on Twitter, Pereira rejected new manager Valerien Ismael’s claims that he was “not committed” to the club and revealed that he had received a life-changing offer three weeks but ultimately wanted to ensure the Hawthorns outfit were properly compensated for his exit.

Did these 25 players make more or less than 100 West Ham appearances?

The Verdict

Taylor’s insight into the situation concerning Pereira and Al Hilal highlights that unless West Brom become desperate or the Saudi Arabian club increase their offer dramatically, that move won’t happen.

Clearly, that’s good for the Premier League clubs in pursuit of the Brazilian with West Ham appearing to be the side closest to a deal – as per Ekrem Konur.

It’s hard to see the 25-year-old remaining at the West Midlands club on the back of his statement and Ismael’s comments but whether a move away can be completed before the end of the window remains to be seen.
