Millwall were dealt a blow in their search for a striker after Hibernian’s Kevin Nisbet turned down the chance to sign for the club.

The Scotsman is now expected to remain with Hibs at least until the end of the season after the forward rejected the chance to join Gary Rowett’s side earlier this week.

The Lions had agreed a fee with the Edinburgh outfit, with the 25-year-old scheduled to travel to South London on Thursday to discuss personal terms and have a medical.

Now, Nisbet’s representatives Quanic Sports confirmed the reasoning for rejecting the chance to join the Championship side. A spokespearson said: “Kevin has thought long and hard about this move but remains unsure about making it right now.

He’d rather focus on Hibs for the time being.”

It comes as a huge blow for Millwall who have been in the market for a new striker for a considerable amount of time. Now, they will need to refocus to find a replacement for Benik Afobe who left at the start of January.

There are just three days left of the transfer window for the Lions to find a forward which does put pressure on the recruitment to ensure their list of targets is up-to-date.

REAL FAKE

The verdict

Despite the deal falling through, it does show that Millwall are being ambitious having seen the last few seasons fall by the wayside at various points in the season.

They have been knocking on the door of the playoffs since Rowett’s arrival and this season, even with Jed Wallace’s departure, they are showing a desire to go out and find the right players to bring into the club.

With time getting tight to get another deal over the line, it will be interesting to see where Millwall turn next. For Nisbet, it seems like a good opportunity has been passed up, with Millwall most definitely on the rise.
