Stoke City have begun to search for replacements for Harry Souttar after receiving a £15m offer from Leicester City for the centre-back.

The Australian international has been impressive since returning from injury earlier in the season, which includes starring at the World Cup in Qatar.

Therefore, it was always going to be a battle to keep hold of Souttar in the transfer window and that’s proven to the case, with reports revealing that the Foxes had offered £15m for the 24-year-old.

And, in a fresh development, journalist Tom Collomosse has suggested the transfer is close, as he gave the latest on the situation on Twitter as the recruitment team at the Bet365 are seeking a defensive replacement.

Good chance of success, this (Leicester’s offer) – believe Stoke actively looking to bring in a centre-back so clearly some expectation of a deal here.”

Souttar has missed the past two games for Alex Neil’s side, although the Stoke boss had insisted that it’s nothing to do with any potential transfer despite Leicester’s interest having been well documented.

Have any of these 20 current or ex-Stoke City players ever played for a German club?

Yes No

The verdict

This is not the news that Stoke fans would’ve wanted to hear as Souttar is a quality player and they would’ve hoped to build around him moving forward.

However, the reality is that it’s hard for any Championship side to resist serious offers, particularly when promotion isn’t a possibility.

All Stoke can do is ensure they get the best fee possible and crucially have a replacement lined up, so it’s a positive that they are looking for a new defender and whoever does arrive will have big boots to fill.
