Our win against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon saw a bit of a Cobham takeover come the end of the match.

It was a festival of goals largely scored or created by academy products, plus Trevoh Chalobah played the whole game and had another fine performance.

It was Ruben Loftus-Cheek that set up Mason Mount to get his hat trick at the end of the game, and before that there was goals from Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

It was a great day to celebrate Cobham at Chelsea, and to admire and appreciate just the kind of quality talent that has been produced within our youth academy in recent years, and celebrate the talent that is still being produced there day in day out.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is very impressed with the academy and the work they are doing there, as he explains to the Chelsea website this morning.

He said:

“The Academy is full of quality coaches and quality leaders, and the guys who come from the Academy through to our team and onto our pitch are all of the same spirit and same attitude – humble guys who know what it is to play for Chelsea.

“They know what it takes to be serious, to be humble, and that there’s no problem in being a nice guy and still playing a hard and serious match of football.

“It’s a pleasure to have that mix between the best players of the world from all countries and the Academy players. That makes things special and creates a certain energy and atmosphere for the spectators in the stadium.

“This is what we want and we will always try to push guys through but in the end, let’s be honest, it’s a matter of quality and not where you come from.”
