Fulham have no intention of cashing in on Newcastle United target Antonee Robinson after his impressive performances at the 2022 World Cup, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The USA left-back has been in good form for Marco Silva’s side and his country this season, but it doesn’t appear he’ll be leaving Craven Cottage in the coming transfer window.

Fulham transfer news – Antonee Robinson

Last February, the former Everton and Wigan full-back was linked with a summer move to West Ham United.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook informed GiveMeSport that the east London side were “keeping tabs” on Robinson ahead of the off-season transfer window.

No move materialised, perhaps due to the fact Fulham gained promotion to the Premier League.

However, with the January transfer window approaching and Robinson very much in the shop window at the World Cup, he’s been tipped for a Craven Cottage exit once again.

TEAMtalk reported earlier this week that Newcastle are eyeing the 25-year-old as Eddie Howe looks to bring in a specialist left-back.

Robinson is also said to be a target for Serie A giants Inter Milan. Curiously, back in 2020, the defender almost completed a shock transfer from Wigan to Nerazzuri’s rivals AC Milan, but the deal collapsed due to medical problems.

What has Dean Jones said about Antonee Robinson’s Fulham future?

Speaking to GMS, Jones insisted that Fulham have no intention of selling Robinson in the near future, regardless of any potential temptation to cash-in on his World Cup performances.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “He’s had a good season with Fulham, he’s had a good World Cup. There’s been clear progress in his overall game too, he’s very much becoming the all-round modern full-back. At this stage Fulham have had no inquiries, they’ve got no intention to sell him. So we’ll have to see whether anybody can change that situation.”

Antonee Robinson’s World Cup stats

Robinson impressed as part of the USA’s World Cup campaign, having helped his country to the first knockout round where they were eliminated by the Netherlands.

The Cottagers star started every match for the USA and helped them record consecutive clean sheets against England and Iran.

As per Whoscored, he averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 0.8 key passes and 1 dribble per game at the tournament in Qatar.

Are Fulham making a mistake?

Fulham’s current stance on Robinson might not be the right call.

Although they won’t want to weaken their squad midseason with Premier League survival still uncertain, the January transfer window may also be their best chance of securing a big fee for the defender.

The World Cup has put him in the shop window and seemingly drummed up interest from at least two parties. Throw in the fact he’d be moving midseason, and Fulham could be in a position to demand a significant premium on the left-back.

At the same time, Robinson’s current contract is due to expire in 2024, so his value in the transfer market after January will naturally start to depreciate.

Couple those factors together and in terms making a significant profit on their original £2m investment in Robinson, Fulham have a small window of vast opportunity.

The only other solution would be to agree a new contract with Robinson and protect his value for the long-term.
