This Sunday’s Premier League fixture sees West Ham United host Fulham at the iconic London Stadium. The Hammers, reeling from a narrow defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, are eager to maintain their momentum in the domestic league. With European aspirations hanging in the balance, David Moyes’ squad is poised for a pivotal clash as they seek their second consecutive league victory—a feat last accomplished in December.
West Ham finds themselves in a precarious seventh place, teetering on the edge of European qualification. The stakes are high as they have a slight advantage over Newcastle, who are just a point behind with a game in hand. In contrast, Fulham, comfortably nestled in the middle of the table, are looking for a place in the top half.
Injury woes have not spared West Ham, with several key players sidelined. Konstantinos Mavropanos exited Thursday’s game with an injury, a setback that Moyes admitted had disrupted their play. “Dinos [Mavropanos] came off with a little bit of an injury and it sort of affected us a little bit with that.” Further complicating matters, Jarrod Bowen and first-choice goalkeeper Alphonse Areola are doubtful, with Areola continuing to recover from a groin injury. Additionally, Kalvin Phillips faces a fortnight out due to a hamstring issue.
Fulham, on the other hand, approaches the game with a fully fit squad. Silva could leverage this advantage to inject some much-needed vigour into his team’s performance, especially after a series of underwhelming results.
The match is scheduled for a 2.00pm BST kick-off on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Fans won’t be able to catch the game live on TV.
Given both teams’ recent form—with each securing only one win in their last five league outings—a draw seems a probable outcome. The last duel in December witnessed Fulham triumphing with a stunning 5-0 victory. However, with both sides now struggling for consistency, a 2-2 draw appears to be on the cards.
