Fulham want to sign Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat from Serie A side Fiorentina, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Amrabat has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Liverpool have been on the search for a new midfielder and the Moroccan has always seemed like a good fit but it is Manchester United who are believed to be winning the race for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano has always emphasised Amrabat’s desire to move to Old Trafford and the transfer expert says talks took place on Thursday evening.

But with a fee yet to be agreed due to United’s lack of transfer funds, Fulham are looking to hijack the deal.

The Cottagers are expected to sell Bayern Munich target Joao Palhinha and have also been linked with Red Devils midfielder Scott McTominay and Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as Marco Silva searches for a replacement.

Amidst rumours linking them with McTominay and Hojbjerg, Di Marzio says Fulham are keen on signing Amrabat from under United’s nose.

The Italian journliast says Fulham are ‘working’ on a deal to sign Amrabat and have offered ‘close to’ €30million (£25.6million), which is believed to be Fiorentina’s asking price.

Amrabat is still expected to leave Fiorentina this summer, but a move to Fulham does seem unlikely, with several journalists saying it will not happen.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has flat out said Amrabat ‘won’t join Fulham’ with Manchester United and Fiorentina currently ‘in talks’.

Meanwhile, Romano also adds that Fulham ‘are not involved in the race’ to sign the 27-year-old, who played under Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag at Utrecht.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna also claims Amrabat is ‘not interested’ in a move to Craven Cottage.

Aouna adds that the Moroccan international has also turned down moves to West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Al-Ahli as he waits for a switch to United.

Speaking about his star player, Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said he will let Amrabat leave if the Serie A club receives a suitable offer.

“We told Amrabat that if he wants to leave, we will try to make it happen,” Commisso told Sky.

“There are other offers for him but I don’t know what will happen tomorrow either.

“There are a lot of negotiations going on but if we can’t find an agreement he will stay and play with us.”

Amrabat joined the Florence outfit from domestic rivals Hellas Verona for €19.5m in January 2020.

The midfielder has also spent time with Utrecht, Feyenoord and Club Brugge.
