One of Manchester United’s alternative midfield targets to Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte could be joining a rival Premier League club, which would be good news for the Parisians in their efforts to sell the Uruguayan.
A recent report from ESPN’s Rob Dawson reveals that Manchester United are not looking to overpay for Ugarte. Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen the midfield, but his interest in Ugarte and Burnley’s Sander Berge has encountered setbacks due to the steep transfer fees being demanded.
Nonetheless, the Red Devils’ interest in Berge is under threat as Fulham have entered the race for Berge. According to Sky Sports News, Fulham have submitted a £20 million bid, plus add-ons, to Burnley for Berge.
Fulham are now waiting on Burnley’s response to the offer as they look to secure the Manchester United target. Berge, who still has three years left on his contract with Burnley, was a standout performer in the Clarets’ midfield last season.
Although Burnley are now in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League, it seems the 26-year-old might remain in England’s top flight. If Fulham does land Berge, it will be interesting to see what Manchester United does next.
Do the Red Devils have other midfielders on file that they want to pursue, or will they put all their eggs in the Ugarte basket this late in the transfer window?
