Fulham have reached an agreement with Leicester City over a deal to sign Belgian defender Timothy Castagne, reports Sacha Tavolieri.

The 27-year-old full-back has been heavily linked with a departure from King Power Stadium since Leicester were relegated from the Premier League.

Several clubs were keeping tabs on his situation, but it seemed like his most likely destination would be Juventus, with the Serie A giants keen on defensive reinforcements at the time.

However, their financial situation compromised the possibility of striking a deal with Leicester, opening the door for Fulham to swoop in for the experienced Belgium international right back.

Tavolieri reports that the Cottagers have struck an agreement with their Championship counterparts worth £15 million plus add-ons.

A formal announcement is only pending a medical examination, which Castagne is expected to complete this morning ahead of signing a four-year contract at Craven Cottage.

Castagne’s imminent arrival is expected to come too soon for him to play a part in Tuesday’s League Cup second-round clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the former Atalanta man could make his debut for Marco Silva’s side when they travel to Etihad Stadium to take on Premier League title holders Manchester City at the start of next month.

Silva has been keen on defensive reinforcements and has finally got his wish, but the Cottagers are still expected to sign a centre-forward to replace Aleksandar Mitrovic before Friday’s deadline.

They have missed out on Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun, who has been widely reported to be on the cusp of completing a move to AS Monaco.

Silva has distanced Fulham from a move for former Everton flop Moise Kean, but they are understood to be pursuing a move for Flamengo striker Pedro.

They are preparing to lodge a second bid for the 26-year-old marksman after seeing an opening proposal worth around £21m turned down by the Brazilian outfit, who are reluctant to sanction his departure.
