Sheffield United‘s Sander Berge could be on the move before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with Fulham the latest club coming in for the Norwegian midfielder.

According to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports, the Cottagers have submitted an offer of initially £20 million with further add-ons for the 24-year-old, although there is no news as to whether that has been accepted or rejected by the Blades.

In the last week, Berge has also been attracting interest from Premier League powerhouses Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of the closing of the transfer window.

And despite United head coach Paul Heckingbottom stating that he does not want to lose any senior players, it is thought that the hierarchy could be tempted to cash in due to the current transfer embargo at Bramall Lane, which was placed upon the club by the EFL after they failed to keep up payments of transfer instalments.

Berge became United’s club-record signing in January 2020 when arriving in South Yorkshire from Belgian outfit Genk, although the £22 million fee for his signature was soon eclipsed by Rhian Brewster.

The 32-cap Norway international has played 87 times in all competitions for the Blades, scoring 12 times, but he could now be on his way out of the club before Tuesday.

The Verdict

Whilst Berge is clearly a talented player, you could argue that he should have more influence on matches in the Championship for someone of his ability.

Too often does the marauding midfielder not take a match by the scruff of the neck and make things happen, but there’s still no denying his class.

If United supporters had to choose to sell one of Berge or Iliman Ndiaye though at this point before the end of the transfer window to ease their financial concerns, then the majority, if not all, would select Berge.

There will be hope that a potential departure for Berge will not affect the promotion push too much, with the Blades a way clear of third place, but at this point they may have to accept the offer that is on the table from Fulham.
