Fulham join Everton, Sevilla and Napoli in transfer hunt for Newcastle United player | OneFootball

Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron is of interest to Championship title winners Fulham, according to Paraguayan reporter Roberto Rojas.

The Cottagers, who will return to the Premier League for the 2022-23 season, are looking to strengthen a number of positions, with The Athletic claiming that two of the areas they are working on are in central midfield and out wide.

Almiron, a natural attacking midfielder, could fit both of those roles as the West London club look to have him on their radar if he is allowed to leave the Magpies.

Per Rojas, Almiron is said to be well-liked by manager Eddie Howe at St. James’ Park, but the 28-year-old also wants to play a major part next season for the club, something that he didn’t always do in 2021-22 as he started just 20 times out of his 30 appearances.

Newcastle paid around £20 million to MLS outfit Atlanta United for Almiron’s services in January 2019, but he’s failed to show his best form for the club in his three-and-a-half years there, scoring just nine league goals and notching three assists in 110 appearances.

Fulham are keen but so are Everton, Napoli and Sevilla if the Paraguay international is made available for transfer, with the player still having two years remaining on his contract.

The Verdict

Almiron arrived at Newcastle with a lot of hype, but three-and-a-half years later it’s safe to say that he’s not lived up to it.

Even though he’s been appearing quite frequently under Eddie Howe recently on the right wing, Almiron probably isn’t good enough for where the Magpies want to be in the next few years.

For Fulham though, he would bring Premier League and international experience, as well as a lot of energy down the right flank if that’s where Marco Silva would utilise him.

There should be concerns about the Paraguayan’s lack of end product, but Almiron does have a lot of traits that could be useful for Fulham next season if they make an approach for him.
