Fulham stand to earn up to 50% of the transfer fee that takes Matt O’Riley from MK Dons to Celtic, as the Hoops close in on the signing of the midfielder.

The player has been subject to a tonne of interest this January transfer window and it appears as though the Scottish giants have won the race to get him, with him now close to joining the Glasgow club north of the border.

Indeed, Athletic reporter Peter Rutzler has revealed that when he left Fulham in 2020 a sell-on fee clause was put in his deal with MK Dons so that, when he was sold on from the League One side, the Cottagers would get a cash boost.

And, as per the Fulham reporter, that could be as much as 50% of the total sale:

The Verdict

Sell on fees are nothing new but it’s certainly rare to see a proportion as high as 50% potentially be cut out of the figure.

Fulham have certainly done well here in getting such a clause in and it looks as though they’re going to be getting a nice bonus with O’Riley on the verge of swapping Milton Keynes for Glasgow.

It’s going to be fascinating watching him perform there, too, with him producing some fine moments for MK Dons.
