Fulham are ahead of West Ham United in the hunt for a defender at one of their Premier League rivals, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The Cottagers want to boost their options at the back and saw Tosin Adarabioyo depart Craven Cottage earlier this summer when his deal expired.
West Ham are also in the market for a centre-back and Kurt Zouma is poised to join UAE side Shabab Al-Ahli.
Both clubs hold an interest in Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, who the Villans are prepared to let go.
It is Fulham though who hold the lead in the race as they have stepped up their interest in Carlos.
The former Sevilla centre-back will be replaced by Aston Villa if he does move on in the ongoing transfer window.
He was sent off in a friendly clash against RB Leipzig recently.
Whether that game will represent the last of Carlos in an Aston Villa shirt remains to be seen.
