Fulham are expecting to unveil Torino star Sasa Lukic as their latest signing at Craven Cottage tonight, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
Cottagers boss Marco Silva has set his sights on bolstering his squad ahead of the 11pm January window deadline.
According to the Evening Standard, Lukic is on the verge of joining Fulham in a deal worth close to £9million.
The report suggests the central midfielder has already agreed personal terms ahead of arriving in west London.
It is understood that Lukic has told Torino he wants to complete the move to Fulham and link-up with compatriot Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The 26-year-old was expected to undergo a medical with the Cottagers yesterday and it comes after opening talks over a deal worth £20million plus add-ons for Sheffield United’s Sander Berge.
But Lukic may not be Fulham’s only deadline day signing as Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge recently told GiveMeSport that he expects Cedric Soares to join on loan from Premier League table-toppers Arsenal.
Jones understands that Fulham have got a deal for Lukic lined up and he is expected to sign on the dotted line ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.
The respected journalist believes the Cottagers have upped the ante after failing to reach an agreement with Sheffield United for Berge.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “Fulham often leave it late – announcements close to deadline are pretty normal.
“The last Berge update indicated to me that there had been a slight issue and they were tinkering with the potential fee, which Sheffield United didn’t really like the sound of.
“Lukic has been framed up though and Fulham expect to present him tonight as a midfield signing.”
Lukic has racked up 20 goal contributions in 168 Torino outings, according to Transfermarkt, so it is clear that Fulham are on the cusp of acquiring a key man.
The former Partizan Belgrade ace has made 19 appearances this season, with the vast majority of those coming in Serie A, while he also made a lasting impression at the World Cup.
Featuring for Serbia alongside Fulham goal-getter Mitrovic, Sofascore statistics show Lukic averaged 1.3 clearances, 0.7 tackles and 88 per cent pass accuracy per outing in Qatar.
Those figures show the midfielder would make Silva’s side more difficult to break down, while also being comfortable in possession.
WhoScored data highlights that only three Torino teammates have found the back of the net more often than Lukic this term, while he also wins 1.4 aerial battles per Serie A encounter, so he could prove to be a shrewd signing for Fulham.
