Fulham are still in talks to sign defender Diego Carlos despite Aston Villa turning down their initial offer, according to The Athletic.
The Cottagers are in the market for centre-backs this summer following the departures of Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream earlier in the transfer window.
They have already signed Jorge Cuenca from Villarreal this summer but Marco Silva is pushing to bring in an experienced centre-back as well.
Villa’s Carlos has emerged as a top target for the club and Fulham are exploring taking him to Craven Cottage in the ongoing transfer window.
It has been claimed that the Midlands club have knocked back an initial offer from the West London club for the former Sevilla defender.
However, the negotiations between the two clubs have continued as Fulham push to sign Carlos.
He joined Villa from Sevilla in 2022 but he ruptured his Achilles tendon in only his second game for the club and had to wait until last season to become a regular in the team.
A serious knee injury to Tyrone Mings last season meant that Carlos made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands club.
