Both Fulham and Middlesbrough are interested in signing Flamengo striker Rodrigo Muniz this summer, as per various reports in Brazil.

In more recent times, O Dia are reporting that Fulham have had a bid rejected for the 20-year-old striker, with the Whites said to have placed a loan bid with a view to buying the player further down the line.

This is said to match the same sort of bid that was made by Middlesbrough for the forward, with Flamengo being said to be open to letting the player leave for pastures new this summer.

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also said to be keen on the frontman, however the European duo are said to prefer a permanent deal as opposed to a loan agreement.

Meanwhile it has now been reported that Fulham are preparing a second bid for the striker as they look to stay in the race for his services, whilst Boro are said to have held talks with the player’s club on Monday in Lisbon in a bid to thrash out a deal.

Middlesbrough quiz: Have any of these 25 players ever scored against the Boro?

1 of 25

Did Thierry Henry score against Boro?

Yes

No

Muniz currently has three years remaining on his contract with the Rio de Janeiro outfit and appears set to depart this summer.

The Verdict

Boro are certainly in need of a new striker this summer and it is clear from this transfer saga that they are casting their net particularly wide in search of new talent.

Muniz is clearly a player that would be signed with the future in mind, but after already finding the back of the net ion numerous occasions for Flamengo, he could be an instant hit at the Riverside Stadium.

The fact that Middlesbrough have supposedly held talks with the player recently will certainly help things for them, however it remains to be seen if they will miss out to a bigger club in the race for the youngster.

Loan moves with an option to buy are never simple and I still think we could see some more twists and turns along the way before we find out where Muniz will be playing his football next season.
