Stade Rennais’ recent plight elicited a severe reaction from one of the club’s fans following their defeat to Toulouse FC (2-0) at the weekend.
Rennes, with just three wins in their opening 11 games of the season, are just one point above the relegation play-off place. It is a run of form that has already cost Julien Stéphan his job. Jorge Sampaoli was in the stands at Roazhon Park over the weekend to witness the defeat, however, he was only officially announced as Les Rennais’ new manager on Monday evening.
He was therefore helpless as Rennes slid to a 2-0 defeat to a revitalised TéFéCé side. The Breton club’s fans showed their displeasure with ultras exiting the ground before the final whistle. One 56-year-old fan, however, took things much further, according to Ouest-France.
The fan in question stopped by a bar on his way, reportedly drinking a lot of whiskey before heading home. When he got home, he then let off a gunshot from outside his window. The man was arrested at his home and then spent the rest of the night at the local police station. Prior to the gunshot, the man in question was heard having a heated conversation over the phone, according to his neighbours.
