Mario Balotelli insists he is a ‘Genoa player even if somebody would not want it’ and aims a dig at the club.

The Italy international has been struggling for playing time since moving to Marassi in 2024.

The 34-year-old signed a contract until the end of the season in October but has only made six appearances with the Grifone, collecting 56 minutes of football.

“Please don’t start fabricating where I’ll go and what I’ll do,” the experienced striker wrote in his latest Instagram story (via Calciomercato).

“I am still a Genoa player, even if somebody would not want it. Most importantly, I respect the fans and the ‘club.'”

Balotelli wrote the word ‘club’ between inverted commas, suggesting that he’s not pleased with directors.

Former Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino convinced Balotelli to join Genoa in October, but the former striker was sacked only a few days later and replaced by Patrick Vieira.

Balotelli didn’t feature in the last four league games for Genoa and made his last appearance for the Grifone on December 21 against Napoli, playing for just seven minutes.
