Debutant Goalkeeper’s Brave Performance Ends in Pain
From Triumph to Turmoil: Barca’s Perfect Start Hit by Serious Setback
Barcelona opened their La Liga title defense with convincing 3 - 0 victory away to Real Mallorca but the night was overshadowed by serious injury to debutant goalkeeper Juan Garcia.
The 24 year old summer signing from Espanyol suffered nasty facial injury after heavy challenge from Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi.
Cameras captured swelling & visible bone on his right cheek sparking concern among the Catalan supporters.
Earlier in the warm up, Garcia'd already dislocated his left pinky finger but club doctor Ricard Pruna reset it and applied simple bandage allowing him to play. Despite the pain, Garcia kept clean sheet on his league debut.
Barcelona secured the win with goals spread across their attack showing early intent to retain the crown. Yet Garcia’s condition dominated the headlines raising doubts about his availability for upcoming matches.
Next up Barcelona face newly promoted Levante on Saturday at the Ciutat de Valencia in the 2nd round of La Liga.
