Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Barcelona about a swap deal involving Marcus Rashford and Frenkie de Jong.

Rashford has dominated headlines in the past few days, amidst suggestions that United are ready to sell him either in January or during the summer transfer window.

It’s believed that United think Rashford’s time at the club is up and they want to part ways with him in an effort to offload his massive wages from the books.

In an interview released on Tuesday, Rashford admitted that he’s open to departing Old Trafford in search of a new adventure.

Barcelona has been mentioned as a possible destination for the Carrington academy graduate and now, reports from Spain [via Football365] claim that United are in talks with the Blaugrana regarding a swap deal involving De Jong.

De Jong is a player United have been interested in since Erik ten Hag’s arrival in 2022 and it appears that the Dutch player is still on their radar.

United are apparently “negotiating a swap deal” involving Rashford and De Jong ahead of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are showing “great interest” in De Jong, who has somewhat fallen out of favour under the management of Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are “working on finding a solution” for their highest-paid player.

The report adds that Amorim “still believes that De Jong could be an interesting addition to the midfield.” The United head coach “wants” Rashford to “leave” and the forward “has been offered” to Barca president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco “as a bargaining chip.”

It’s however important to take these suggestions with a pinch of salt until they’re verified by more reputable sources. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Spanish media have jumped the gun when it comes to United-related transfer news.

Earlier today, Amorim insisted that he’d love to keep Rashford, with his main focus being to help the 27-year-old find his best form.

United are back in action on Thursday when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
