Football has immortalised many of its icons in stone over the years but some of the results will be enshrined in history for all the wrong reasons.
This weekend, Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah unveiled a new statue Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah at the World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh and we’re sorry but it’s absolutely terrible.
But where does it rank on the all-time list of football’s monuments to hubris? Let’s take a look, from best to worst …
This statue of Colombian legend is so bad it’s actually quite good. Full marks for creativity.
This statue of the King of Pop was once proudly displayed outside Fulham’s Craven Cottage, for reasons which still aren’t exactly clear. Not only should it never have been anywhere near a football stadium but it’s not even a particularly good Jacko likeness anyway.
Like Newcastle United, this statue of Magpies legend Milburn has seen much better days.
But it’s still better than this statue of former Newcastle manager Bobby Robson. We had no idea he didn’t have any hands.
The statue of Wolves legend Wright definitely has hands, but one of those hands is carrying a ball for some reason. We’re pretty sure that’s against the rules.
It might not surprise you to learn that this isn’t the last time Ronaldo will appear on this list. What on earth is going on inside those shorts?
This is a terrible statue and everyone agrees. Well, everyone except El Diego himself, who looks pretty pleased with it in this photo.
Yet somehow, it’s not even the worst Maradona statue on this list. What on Earth is that?
They’re getting really bad now. When Southampton commissioned a statue of their legendary former player and manager Bates, they were probably expecting his arms and legs to be in proportion to his body.
We’re still not over this one. What were they thinking?
Yep, we’ve decided. The Salah statue is the worst that’s ever been erected. Sorry, but just look at it.
