Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has identified his next big-name recruit, eyeing up an employee of his former club Bayern Munich, according to reports.

While the ongoing competitive season may have only just gotten going, the transfer rumour mill continues to turn for Europe’s premier clubs, and for Manchester City their pursuit of the globe’s biggest talents never stops.

With City Football Group and other members of Manchester City staff having one eye on emerging talents, officials closer to the Etihad Stadium first-team are continuously targeting the next names to compete in Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering first-team squad.

Some members of the City first-team are not getting any younger, and figures in certain quarters believe that the reigning European champions are already eyeing successors to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, with the Belgian in particular entering his twilight years.

That search could now take Manchester City officials over to the Allianz Arena, with reports from Germany suggesting that the Etihad first-team head coach himself has identified a primary name in Thomas Tuchel’s squad as a transfer target.

That is according to the information of BILD’s Christian Falk, who reports that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ‘wants’ Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala at the Etihad Stadium.

It is explained that the Bundesliga champions and Premier League giants Liverpool now have ‘big competition’ following the emergence of last season’s Treble winners as a potential suitor for the 20-year-old.

The 2003-born playmaker is enjoying another impressive season with Bayern Munich, particular in the UEFA Champions League where he has registered two goals and an assist in his opening three games in the group stage of the competition.

In the Bundesliga, Jamal Musiala has provided a further two assists in his opening five appearances in the German top-flight, amid additional appearances in Germany’s cup competitions.

The seriousness of Manchester City’s interest in the player remains to be seen, however with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2026, it is certain that the Premier League champions will be keeping a watchful eye on his situation in the run-up to next summer’s transfer window.
