Rumours linking out-of-favour Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips with particular clubs are ‘really premature’, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England international is enduring what is likely to be the most toughest period of his professional career, having largely failed to integrate himself into Manchester City’s squad, and subsequently at West Ham.

Joining the London Stadium club on loan for the remainder of the ongoing 2023/24 season, Phillips has put together a run of appearances that have been less than convincing, despite David Moyes’ clear show of faith in his natural abilities.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, talk is already beginning to intensify regarding the future of Kalvin Phillips, and the expected rejection from West Ham to secure the signature of the midfielder on a permanent basis.

Offering his take on the future of the Manchester City midfielder, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has insisted that nor does he expect Phillips to remain at West Ham, whilst going on to reject claims of interest from other clubs in England.

Providing an update on the future of the 28-year-old in recent days, Fabrizio Romano has revealed, “As things stand, I don’t expect (Kalvin) Phillips to stay at West Ham permanently.”

The transfer window insider continued, “I think there will be other options and solutions. From what I understand, all reports linking the player with the likes of Leeds and Fulham are really premature.”

Many believe that a return to Elland Road could be the best solution for Kalvin Phillips, especially in the event of a return to the Premier League for Daniel Farke’s side – who currently sit third in the Championship table.

Whatever the outcome for Phillips this summer, Manchester City will almost certainly have to take a loss on the player following their initial investment in the summer of 2022, with some reports already indicating a £30 million transfer valuation.
