Reports in England are now confirming earlier claims of interest from Manchester City in Paris Saint-Germain and Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City have made six summer signings so far as they embark upon a new Premier League campaign – starting on Saturday evening away at Wolves – after recording their lowest points tally in a league campaign under Pep Guardiola last term.

City finished third in the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign, exited the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage and came up short in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace to mark Guardiola’s most challenging year at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Hugo Viana has spearheaded a major summer rebuild this summer after replacing Txiki Begiristain as Manchester City’s director of football, following the Blues’ £181.5 million outlay on the quartet of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis in January.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has been signed at left-back, which will allow Josko Gvardiol to thrive in his natural centre-back position after forging a strong partnership at the heart of defence in the closing months of the recent campaign.

James Trafford has arrived from Burnley for £27 million as a long-term prospect, with Ederson entering the final year of his Manchester City contract amid strong interest from Galatasaray, who are believed to have agreed personal terms with the 31-year-old goalkeeeper.

With Kevin De Bruyne joining Napoli on a free transfer this summer, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders have been brought in to bolster Manchester City’s midfield – which was evidently devoid of creativity, goals and inspiration in general in the absence of the Belgian last term.

Marcus Bettinelli has come through the door from Chelsea as City’s third-choice goalkeeper after Scott Carson was released at the end of his contract. Sverre Nypan has signed a long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium, making the 18-year-old – who is expected to go out on loan for the coming season – the most lucrative export out of Norway.

According to a new report from MailSport’s Simon Jones, Manchester City are now weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain and Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after Galatasaray returned to negotiations to sign Ederson.

It is detailed that City have been aware that their long-standing Brazilian stopper could yet leave and have been alert to market movement, while Donnarumma has been told he is no longer first choice at PSG following the signing of Lucas Chevalier.

However, the French giants and reigning Champions of Europe are said to still want around £40 million for Donnarumma, while clubs in Saudi Arabia and officials at Real Madrid have also shown tentative interest in the player.

It remains to be seen how the next few weeks play out, with Manchester City only likely to follow through their interest in Donnarumma should Ederson express a desire to leave the club and Galatasaray table an offer deemed acceptable at the Etihad Stadium.
